Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Little Ripples program?

A fun, parent-involved intro program for ages 4–6. It focuses on physical activity and bonding. Sessions include training and playful games.

What are the expectations in competitive soccer?
  • Greater commitment, more travel, and weekly games
  • Uniforms are player's responsibility
  • Winter and spring training sessions included
What is the Soccer Parent Resource Center?

RSFC provides free access to SoccerParentResourceCenter.com, offering courses, articles, webinars, and parent community for education and support.

What’s the referee policy and how do I become one?

You must be 13 or older. Certification through US Soccer required. Respect and sideline behavior are emphasized through club policy.

Are there winter programs?

Yes. Winter training sessions are held in Kimberly and Kaukauna school district gyms for Competitive and Academy players.

Is there adult soccer offered?

Yes. RSFC offers adult coed rec soccer starting in June. Games are Sunday evenings. Must be 18+. Registration closes May 6.

What’s the policy on communication and resolving issues?

Follow the 24-hour rule before contacting a coach. Escalation steps involve the DOC and then the Incident & Issues Committee.

What is the refund policy?

Refunds allowed only before the first game. Special cases reviewed by the Executive Committee. A portion of the fee may be retained.

How do I volunteer as a coach or helper?

Submit an interest form. Rec and Academy rely heavily on parent volunteers. Competitive teams also have paid coach opportunities.

Can my child play up an age group?

Only by evaluation. Players must rank in the top third of the older age group and be approved by the Director of Coaching.

What are the fundraising expectations?

Most programs require either fundraising participation or a buyout. Competitive teams may do additional fundraisers for tournament expenses.

How are teams formed?
  • Rec: Random assignment
  • Academy/Competitive: Skill-based placement via evaluations or tryouts
How do I know what age group my child should be in?

Soccer age determination is based on birth year, not school year, please use Age Eligibility chart to determine what age bracket they should be in.

What equipment is required?
  • Little Ripples: Size 3 ball, shin guards, cleats, water bottle
  • 10U+: Shin guards, size 4+ ball, RSFC uniform kit
Where are games and practices held?

Fields are located in Kimberly, Kaukauna, Harrison, Sherwood and nearby communities like Green Bay, Oshkosh, and Fond du Lac.

When does each season start and end?
  • Fall Rec: Starts after Labor Day
  • Spring Rec: April–July
  • Academy: Fall: Aug–Oct, Spring: Apr–Jun
  • Competitive: Fall & Spring games, Winter training
Is financial assistance available?

Yes, the Nestle Fee Assistance Program helps families in need cover registration fees only. Fundraising obligations still apply.

How much does it cost to join?

Fees range from $40 to $900, depending on age and program. Some programs include fundraising requirements or buyout options.

What is the difference between Recreational, Academy, and Competitive programs?
  • Recreational: Local games, minimal travel, volunteer coaches.
  • Academy: Ages 7–10, 2 practices/week + Saturday games, skill-based.
  • Competitive: Tryouts required, higher competition, travel, and licensed coaches.
What age group should my child play in?

Age is determined by birth year, not school grade. Use the Age Eligibility Chart to find the correct group.

When are tryouts and how do we register?

Tryouts are held in early June. Registration opens April 1 through PlayMetrics. Offers are sent mid-June. In-season tryouts may be available by contacting doc@riversurgefc.org.

What days to recreational teams play and practice?

River Surge FC belongs to the East Central Soccer District, which dictates the game days for the recreational teams.

Any day other than a game day, could be a practice day for your team.  It depends on your assigned coach and field availability.
